Left side of topstrap marked in a single line “MY FRIEND PAT’D DEC. 26. 1865.” Serial number “7505” on bottom of frame, with the last number “7” on the rear face of the cylinder and cylinder arbor pin. The seven chambers of the cylinder double as the barrels of the pepperbox style single action, spur trigger revolver. The James Reid Company manufactured these guns in Catskill, NY circa 1869-1884. During that time the firm produced roughly 14,200 “My Friend” knuckle dusters, the majority in .22 (about 11,000) as well as about 3,000 in .32 caliber and a couple hundred in .41 caliber. One of the most distinctive and recognizable hide out handguns from the period of the American West, with thousands no doubt seeing use by such diverse people as shop keepers, gamblers, and soiled doves. Combined lot shipping available. Very fine to excellent. Metal with most of the nickel finish intact, with some minor flaked loss on the frame, primarily around the lower edges of the finger hole. Cylinder with a line of old dried oil, with the frame showing some small areas of old as well. Mechanically functional action, including the safety mechanism, but the lock up is not completely tight and positive. Bores all about good, moderately oxidized with some pitting.
