.22RF Short. 3.5” octagonal barrel. SN: 666 . Blued barrel with engraved chamber, engraved brass frame, color casehardened hammer and trigger, smooth varnished walnut grips. Barrel marked in a single line on top “H.C. LOMBARD & CO. SPRINGFIELD, MASS”. Serial number on lower left of frame under grip and inside right grip. Frame and rear of barrel engraved with flowing New York style foliate scrolls with some punch dot shading. A simple pivoting barrel, single action, spur trigger, single shot derringer, the action is quite similar to the Merwin & Bray derringers, which are nearly identical. It is believed that only about 1,100 of these guns were produced by the short-lived H.C. Lombard Company of Springfield, MA which was only in business circa 1859-1861.
