Set of six iconic Hans J. Wegner “The Chair” (Model 501) armchairs in teak and rattan, designed in 1949 and crafted by cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen, Denmark. This single-owner set was purchased new by Richard J. Vasquez in 1959, with original invoices and correspondence included as provenance.
These sculptural armchairs exemplify Wegner’s mastery of organic Danish modern design with steam-bent curved backrests and handwoven cane seats.
Measurements: 25 x 22 x 30 in. high
Condition: Original finish in fine condition overall. One chair has rattan seat fully intact; the other five have approximately 2–8 broken strands each.
Provenance: Richard J. Vasquez, purchased directly from Den Permanente, Copenhagen, in 1959; thence by descent to the Vasquez Living Trust.
