Hand-hammered sterling silver pitcher by Shreve & Co., San Francisco, bearing the firm’s distinctive bell hallmark, used during the company’s celebrated Arts & Crafts period, circa 1900–1925. Marked No. 510 with a 4½-pint capacity. The body is engraved with a large script monogram “C.”

Founded in San Francisco in 1852, Shreve & Co. became the premier jeweler and silversmith of the American West, serving California’s leading families, businesses, and institutions. Around the turn of the twentieth century the firm began producing its own handcrafted sterling silver, embracing the Arts & Crafts movement’s emphasis on skilled workmanship and restrained elegance. The distinctive bell trademark pays homage to California’s historic Mission bells and identifies the firm’s Arts & Crafts-era production.
