An original reverse-painted and gold leaf advertising sign for J.H. Cutter Whiskey, executed with reverse gold leaf Roman serif lettering on a black ground and bearing the name C.P. Moorman & Co. at lower right. Operating in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1866 to 1919, C.P. Moorman & Co. were the proprietors of the J.H. Cutter brand, which developed an important California trade through its long association with A.P. Hotaling & Co., sole Pacific Coast agent. Executed in the classic reverse-on-glass process, the sign reflects the refined bar fixtures supplied to hotels, saloons, and liquor merchants during the pre-Prohibition era.

Dimensions: 7 × 12 in.

Shipping: Free Sacramento pickup. Shipping via FedEx within the continental U.S. for $65 plus 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing).

Condition

The reverse-painted decoration remains bright and well preserved with expected minor wear from age and handling. Appears to retain the original hanging chain. No significant losses to the lettering or decoration are apparent.
