An early 20th-century advertising lithograph for Helmar Turkish Cigarettes, printed in 1907 by S. Anargyros and signed in plate by A.H. Sonn lower right. The richly rendered portrait of a Native American woman in a fringed buckskin jacket and broad straw hat was part of Helmar’s effort to blend exotic and Western themes in their branding—a nod to both their Turkish tobacco and American frontier appeal. Helmar Cigarettes, produced by the Anargyros Tobacco Company of New York, became known for their high-end packaging and bold advertising imagery, often targeting baseball fans and collectors. The firm was active from the early 1900s through the 1920s, issuing both advertising prints and collectible tobacco cards.
