The identified Pasadena location places the work within one of Southern California’s most celebrated artistic landscapes. During the early twentieth century, the city’s arroyos, eucalyptus groves, and mountain vistas attracted numerous California Impressionists who were drawn to the region’s distinctive light and Mediterranean character. Otis captures these familiar features with a fresh, painterly approach, creating a vibrant view of one of California’s most enduring landscapes.
