An oil on board by George Demont Otis (1879–1962), signed lower right and titled “Corte Madera Flats” on the reverse, which also bears the George Demont Otis Estate stamp. The composition overlooks the tidal marshes of Corte Madera in Marin County, where winding waterways, open wetlands, and groves of eucalyptus lead the eye toward the hills beyond. A small cluster of hillside homes suggests the early residential development of this now highly sought-after community. Painted with loose, impressionistic brushwork, the work captures the distinctive character of the San Francisco Bay shoreline, a landscape that attracted many California Impressionists during the first half of the twentieth century.
