.22RF Short. 3.25” octagon to round barrel. SN: 13242 . Full blue finish, fully etched engraved frame in the style of the L.D. Nimschke shop, fire blued screws and hammer, smooth rosewood grips. Two-line address on top of receiver reads “REMINGTON’S ILION, N.Y./PATD OCT. 1, 1861”. Serial number on lower left of frame under grip and on the bottom of the barrel. Frame with tight foliate scroll engraving that is highly detailed, with stippled background shading. Equipped with a rudimentary notch rear sight in upper rear of frame and a brass post front sight. It is estimated that only about 20,000 of these diminutive saw handle, single shot, spur trigger derringers were produced from about 1865 to 1888. This was another handgun model that was dropped from the product line after the Remington bankruptcy and the firm’s acquisition by Hartley & Graham. Fire blued parts with some nice remnants of their iridescent blue remaining. Markings remain clear and crisp; engraving remains crisp and sharp as well. Firing mechanism works correctly. Bore about very good, partly bright with moderate amounts of oxidation, some pitting and good rifling. Grips in fine condition with some light handing marks.
