A California-marked example of the Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, featuring a 6-inch octagonal barrel marked “Address Sam Colt / New York City,” and frame clearly stamped “Colts / Patent.” Matching serial number 15966 appears throughout, dating this revolver to approximately 1850–1851. Of particular interest is the engraved inscription on the brass backstrap: “VAUGHAN, CALIFORNIA,” referencing the small mining settlement that once existed in Nevada County near the Yuba River. The cylinder retains faint remnants of the original stagecoach scene engraving.
