A mixed media painting on paper by California Western artist A.D.M. Cooper, depicting a lone buffalo emerging from the plains at dusk, encircled by a painted ceremonial shield with triangular motifs, trailing feathers, a lance, and a tomahawk. Signed and dated within the image: “A.D.M. Cooper 1895.” Cooper was known for his theatrical interpretations of Native American and frontier imagery, often blurring the lines between ethnographic reference and romantic fantasy. This example captures both his technical skill and narrative flair.
