Issued by the State of California in 1991, this one-ounce proof gold commemorative features the Great Seal of the State of California on the obverse and a grizzly bear with cub on the reverse. Struck in .9999 fine gold, the piece contains one troy ounce of pure gold and was produced with mirror fields and frosted devices characteristic of proof coinage. The original issue celebrated California’s natural heritage and Gold Rush legacy, making these state-issued commemoratives a distinctive addition to modern American gold bullion collections. As legal tender gold bullion coinage, this lot is exempt from applicable California sales tax.
