Original Henry Sackrider photograph documenting Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig during their celebrated 1927 postseason barnstorming tour, pictured with local Marysville resident Jack Fredericks. The photograph commemorates the Yankees’ appearance in Marysville following the legendary 1927 season, when local businessmen reportedly raised $1,000 to secure a stop on the tour, making Marysville the smallest city to host the exhibition. Before approximately 2,000 spectators at Municipal Ball Park, Ruth homered, Gehrig tripled, and the “Bustin’ Babes” defeated the “Larrupin’ Lous” by a score of 9–7.

The photograph bears the signature of Marysville photographer Henry Sackrider and the names identifying Ruth, Fredericks, and Gehrig appear to have been inscribed by Sackrider, consistent with Northern California studio practices of the period. The blank reverse lacks newspaper or wire service markings, suggesting this is an original Sackrider studio photograph produced for local distribution rather than a later press reproduction. No other examples of this image have been identified during our research.
