Finely engraved 14K yellow gold match case featuring an intricately detailed scenic panel depicting a European riverside town with bridge and towers, framed by bold foliate and geometric borders. The reverse is beautifully inscribed “Dr. A. E. Mackay / Portland Ore.” within a scrolling cartouche.
Dr. Albert E. Mackay (1863–1952) was a pioneering Portland physician and early Professor of Urology at the University of Oregon Medical School. A respected leader in his field, he introduced bacteriology and modern diagnostic methods to Pacific Northwest medicine and served as president of multiple medical societies. The inscription directly connects this piece to one of Oregon’s most distinguished early medical figures, lending it both historical and regional significance.
