Signed lower left. A finely executed watercolor depicting a tranquil woodland view in Oakland’s Leona Park, one of William Seltzer Rice’s favored East Bay subjects. Rendered with his characteristic mastery of transparent watercolor, the composition captures the graceful rhythm of maple trunks framing a flowing creek, with luminous autumn foliage receding into the distance. Rice was among California’s foremost watercolorists of the early twentieth century and an influential educator at the California School of Arts and Crafts (now California College of the Arts), where he helped establish the East Bay watercolor tradition. His landscapes are celebrated for their sensitive observation of nature, restrained palette, and refined draftsmanship. The reverse retains the original Kerwin Galleries label identifying the work and title, reflecting its placement with one of Northern California’s leading dealers in historic California art.

Appears to be in very good overall condition. The watercolor displays strong color and presents well behind glass in a later frame and mat. Not examined out of the frame. Minor wear to the frame consistent with age and handling.
