A colorful lithographed beer tray advertising Wieland’s Extra Pale Lager, featuring a Native American woman in traditional dress holding a decorated leather strap against a light sky background. The ornate polychrome border is accented with Indian motifs and the slogan “A Western Product.” Marked lower edge “Copyright by Kaufmann & Strauss Co. N.Y.” John Wieland (1829–1885), a German immigrant, founded his San Francisco brewery in 1855. By the 1870s, it was one of the largest on the West Coast, known for its lagers and distinctive Western-themed advertising.
