Gold Dust was introduced in the early 1870s by Barkhouse Bros. & Co. of Louisville, Kentucky, and quickly found popularity in the West when John Van Bergen & Co. of San Francisco became sole agents, later acquiring full rights to the brand in 1880. This clear glass back bar bottle is boldly enameled “GOLD DUST WHISKEY” in large serif letters, likely produced as a decorative display bottle for saloon or bar use rather than for bottling.
