Early 20th-century San Francisco Police seven-point star badge in sterling silver, numbered 976. The face displays black enameled lettering reading “SAN FRANCISCO POLICE” surrounding the centrally applied badge number. The reverse is maker-marked “IRVINE & JACHENS / 1027 / MARKET ST. S.F.”, stamped “STERLING,” and bears the impressed date “11 1 21,” indicating issue or manufacture on November 1, 1921. Irvine & Jachens was among San Francisco’s premier manufacturers of police badges, insignia, and civic emblems during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, producing badges for municipal departments throughout California and the West.

Condition
Very good overall condition with an attractive, untouched patina and light surface wear consistent with age and service. Black enameled lettering remains largely intact. Reverse retains crisp maker’s marks, sterling stamp, and impressed date. Pinback and catch function properly.
