A finely struck silver medal issued by the Royal Hawaiian Agricultural Society, established in 1850 under the reign of King Kamehameha III to promote agricultural development in the Hawaiian Kingdom. The obverse depicts a royal crown above radiant rays, with symbols of industry and agriculture—plow, sugarcane, and ship—encircled by the legend “ROYAL HAWAIIAN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY / ESTABLISHED A.D. 1850.” The reverse is engraved “Premium for the Best Exhibited / A. Bal / 1854.” These medals were among the earliest prize awards struck in the islands, recognizing contributions to Hawaiian agricultural advancement during a formative period in the kingdom’s economic history.
