A finely woven Panamint (Koso / Shoshone) coiled basket from the Indigenous communities of the Owens Valley, Panamint Range, and Death Valley region of eastern California and western Nevada. Worked in willow and devil’s claw with a three-rod foundation, the basket features classic bold, stepped, and zigzag geometric motifs associated with Panamint Shoshone weavers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The tight, even coilwork and carefully articulated patterning reflect the region’s renowned Great Basin basketry tradition. Includes two early photographs documenting the basket in a family collection. Dimensions: 4 1/2 in. high; 7 1/2 in. diameter. Provenance: Private collection, Santa Barbara, California. Pickup & Shipping: Free pickup in Sacramento. Shipping via FedEx within the continental U.S. for $65 + 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing). Combined lot shipping available.
