Mixed-media sculpture titled Backyard Ritual, created in 1989 by American studio glass artists Kit Karbler and Michael David. Signed and dated by both artists, the work is executed in polished optical glass mounted on a carved granite pedestal and explores geometric abstraction through precisely cut crystal forms, suspended optical elements, and dramatic prismatic refraction. It exemplifies the collaborative experimentation that emerged from Denver’s influential Blake Street Studio movement during the late twentieth century. Karbler and David are recognized for their innovative use of optical glass, combining sculptural precision with the interplay of light, color, and transparency. Their collaborative works are represented in major museum collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass and the Denver Art Museum.
