Cast and polished glass sculpture titled Tranquility (Gold/Ruby), created in 2006 by Canadian glass artist David James (b. 1949). Executed as a solid crystal demi-sphere in luminous gold and ruby tones, the work exemplifies James’ mastery of optical glass, with subtle internal reflections and color transitions that create the illusion of remarkable depth within the massive sculptural form. The Tranquility series received recognition from the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and represents one of the artist’s signature explorations of minimalist form, light, and color. James studied at Sweden’s National Glass School in Orrefors before refining his cast-glass techniques with Colin Reid in the United Kingdom and artisans in Pelechov, Czechia. His work has been widely exhibited throughout North America and Europe and is represented in museum and prominent private collections.
