Each token features a photographic image of a woman at center, surrounded by the text “GOOD FOR ONE DRINK / THE CLUB SALOON / MAIN STREET MOKELUMNE HILL” and notes S. Gobbi, Prop. Reverse sides with mirrors. Such promotional tokens were distributed by saloons and merchants as redeemable drink giveaways during the early 20th century. Located in Calaveras County, Mokelumne Hill was one of the richest and most storied towns of California’s Gold Rush era. By the early 1900s, establishments like The Club Saloon catered to locals and travelers along the historic Mother Lode route, continuing the region’s long association with mining-town hospitality and frontier culture.
