A gold-mounted presentation cane featuring a 10k gold handle with period San Francisco-style scroll engraving. One side is inscribed “Remembrance of Ch. Bernhardt” and the other “E. M. Carty”. The crown is set with a natural gold quartz specimen — a striking ornamental stone found almost exclusively in 19th-century California. Popular during the Gold Rush and after, gold quartz was incorporated into jewelry and personal accessories as a symbol of California’s mining wealth and frontier identity. The shaft is rosewood and fitted with a horn ferrule. Dimensions: 34 in. long; handle approx. 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. Provenance: Al and Carol Cali Collection. Pickup & Shipping: Free pickup in Sacramento.
