Lithograph printed by Day & Son, London, after the original drawing by George Catlin (1796–1872). One of the few known views commemorating the artist himself in action, this dramatic composition depicts Catlin on horseback firing a Colt revolver into a fleeing herd of bison. First issued during the mid-19th century as part of Catlin’s efforts to promote and fund his Indian Gallery, this lithograph bridges art, exploration, and frontier history, and offers early visual documentation of Colt firearms in use on the American plains.
