Signed “E. Villanis” on the base and stamped with the circular French guarantee seal “BRONZE GARANTI AU TITRE – PARIS – DÉPOSÉ”, model no. A1882. An elegant Art Nouveau bronze figural lamp by Emmanuel Villanis, depicting a topless standing female figure draped in flowing fabric and raising an iridescent Loetz-style art glass shade. Villanis (1858–1914), one of the most commercially successful sculptors of fin-de-siècle Paris, was known for his idealized female subjects and expressive modeling; his bronzes were widely distributed through Parisian foundries that employed the guarantee mark seen here. This example embodies the flowing lines and sensual aesthetic that define the height of French Art Nouveau design.
