A lithographed tin advertising charger of shallow dished form for Buffalo Brewing Co., Sacramento, California, promoting its flagship Bohemian Beer. Produced by Beach Art Display Co. of Coshocton, Ohio, one of America’s leading manufacturers of premium advertising displays, the charger features an Art Nouveau portrait of a young woman framed by the brewery’s name and the slogan, “That Delicious Beer.”

Buffalo Brewing Co. was founded in 1888 by Herman H. Grau, with production beginning in 1890 at its brewery occupying the block bounded by 21st, 22nd, Q, and R Streets in Sacramento, the site later occupied by The Sacramento Bee. In 1897 the company merged with the rival Ruhstaller Brewery to form the Sacramento Brewing Company, though the Buffalo Brewing name remained one of Northern California’s best-known beer brands. The brewery survived Prohibition by producing near beer and ice before resuming brewing after Repeal, remaining in operation until 1945. Advertising displays such as the present charger helped establish Buffalo Brewing’s enduring identity and today rank among the most desirable survivors of Sacramento’s brewing history.

This example retains exceptional original color and gloss with only scattered minor edge nicks, a few light scratches and rubs visible upon close inspection, several small surface marks within the image, and light age-related discoloration to the reverse. Based on its outstanding state of preservation, it is consistent with the finest known surviving examples.
