This artist’s proof retains its original Martin Lawrence Galleries documentation, including the original sales invoice, gallery inventory label, and framing records. Martin Lawrence Galleries was one of the leading distributors of Andy Warhol’s graphic work during the 1980s, and the survival of this documentation provides an exceptional and uninterrupted ownership history dating to the work’s original retail sale on May 3, 1989. Printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, Warhol’s master printer and longtime collaborator, the edition represents an important example of the artist’s late graphic work.
