Landscape painting by French artist André Bourrié, titled Les Vallons (“The Valleys”). Executed in oil on canvas, the composition presents a vivid panorama of undulating hills and clustered village rooftops rising above a regiment of white birch trees rendered in Bourrié’s distinctive vertical strokes. The work demonstrates Bourrié’s signature treatment of light, texture, and rural French atmosphere—hallmarks that earned him international acclaim. A self-taught painter and former building molder, Bourrié rose to prominence in the late 20th century, receiving numerous awards including the Silver Medal for Best Worker in France (1979) and a Gold Medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. His expressive views of Brittany and the South of France are prized for their emotional tone and painterly depth.
