The front cover is engraved with flowing monogrammed initials, while the reverse is inlaid with four gold quartz panels arranged in a diamond shape on a circular ground of red stone. Inside, the dust cover is engraved: “W. P. W. / to his / Wife Annie / Jan. 1st 87.” The white enamel dial bears the retailer’s name, Geo. C. Shreve & Co., San Francisco, Cal., with Roman numerals and blued steel hands. The movement is marked Am. Watch Co. / Royal / Waltham, Mass. with serial number 2704244, indicating a Waltham Grade Royal 13-jewel, 6-size movement, produced circa 1885–1886.
