.22RF Short. 2.5” fluted 5-barrel cluster. SN: 293 . Blued barrel cluster, silver plated frame, smooth varnished rosewood grips. Rotating chamber marked in two lines: “CONTINENTAL ARMS CO.NORWICH, CT./PATNETED AUGUST 28, 1866.” Serial number on left side of grip frame under grip, left grip panel with matching number written in period pencil. These interesting single action cartridge pepperboxes featured a spur trigger, a loading cut out in the rear of the frame without a gate, no ejector system and no sights. The design was patented by Charles Converse and Samuel Hopkins and the pistols were produced by the Bacon Manufacturing Company. Barrel cluster with most of the blue intact, showing some high edge wear, thinning and some scattered areas of light surface oxidation and minor surface roughness. Frame with much of the silver plating intact, with some high edge wear and loss and with a deeply tarnished patina. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional action. Bores fine, mostly bright with some light oxidation and crisp rifling. Grips fine and crisp with sharp edges and most of the varnish in place, showing some light wear. Grips slightly proud of the bottom of the grip frame but are original to the revolver with one panel pencil numbered to the gun.
