A collection of three late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century figural walking sticks. Comprising: (1) a finely carved iv*ry bulldog handle with glass eyes and an ornate gold-filled presentation collar engraved, “To / C.W. Treadaway / AS A TOKEN / OF ESTEEM / FROM HIS / FRIENDS AT / THE DUKE OF YORK,” mounted to an exotic hardwood shaft with steel ferrule; (2) a carved iv*ry bulldog-form handle incorporating a concealed snuff compartment within the snout, fitted with a sterling silver collar and mounted to an exotic hardwood, probably rosewood, shaft with brass ferrule; and (3) an iv*ry telescoping eyeglass handle with silver-plated collar mounted to a tiger-striped maple shaft, retaining its original wrist loop. Together, the group illustrates the ingenuity and craftsmanship characteristic of quality European novelty and gentleman’s canes.

Telescoping Eyeglass Cane: 35 in.
