Framed Thomas Hill (1829-1908) oil on board painting, "Pulpit Rock, Road to Tahoe". Signed lower right, "T. Hill". Handwritten verso, "Pulpit Rock / Road to Lake Tahoe". Maxwell Galleries label affixed verso. Dimensions: (sight) 10.5"h x 14.25"w; (framed) 16.25"h x 20"w. Hill immigrated from England to the United States and became one of the foremost 19th century landscape painters. He was known for his majestic depictions of Yosemite and the Sierra Mountains. Condition

Several scattered pinpoint paint fleck losses, two largest are over redwood trees. Two horizontal thin gray lines in sky area (approximately .75"l). Under UV light there are scattered areas of inpainting totally approximately 1/3 - 1/2 of sky area. There is also a small amount of inpainting over the lower right quadrant near the road.
