This upright floor model slot machine was produced by the Mills Novelty Company at the turn of the century. The oak case is accented with nickel-plated cast trim, a vividly lithographed spinning dial, and a reverse-painted glass panel bearing the name “20th Century.” The name itself was a deliberate marketing gesture, aligning the machine with the optimism and progress associated with the dawn of the 20th century—an era that saw explosive advances in industry, entertainment, and mechanical design.
