A classic Louis Vuitton monogram canvas Malle Courrier (Courier Trunk), retaining its original hand-painted red courier stripe, iron-bound construction, brass and steel hardware, and two original fitted interior trays. The trunk bears the Louis Vuitton retailer label listing the firm’s Paris, Lille, Nice, and London addresses, together with stamped production number 184149. The exterior retains numerous period travel labels and ownership markings documenting decades of use during the golden age of rail and steamship travel.
Introduced in the late nineteenth century, Louis Vuitton’s flat-top courier trunks revolutionized travel by allowing luggage to be stacked efficiently aboard trains and ocean liners. Today, collectors particularly value examples that remain in original, unrestored condition and preserve the travel labels, painted stripes, and honest wear accumulated through actual use. The present trunk embodies that history, retaining the character and patina that distinguish authentic period Vuitton luggage from restored examples. Particularly desirable are the surviving travel labels and the complete fitted interior with its original pair of removable trays.
Dimensions: 20.5 in. high x 40 in. wide x 19.5 in. deep.

Original painted red courier stripe remains visible. Hardware exhibits oxidation and wear. Interior retains its original quilted lining, both fitted removable trays, and securing straps with expected staining and discoloration from age. An authentic, unrestored example with strong decorative appeal and desirable original surfaces.
