A bronze sculpture by Dutch-born American artist Loet Vanderveen (1921–2015) depicting a pair of cheetahs, one standing alert while the other is shown in full stride. Signed “Loet” and numbered 237/750. Vanderveen is celebrated for his refined modernist interpretations of wildlife, characterized by streamlined forms and richly nuanced dark patinas. Following service during World War II, he worked as a fashion designer before studying ceramics under Fong Chow at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. After settling in Big Sur, California, he turned to bronze sculpture, producing the elegant animal figures that established his international reputation. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections and has been exhibited at institutions including the de Young Museum in San Francisco and the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York.
