A very fine and interesting Japanese wakizashi, apparently made from an early polearm, possibly a naginata. The blade shows a stronger curve, with the hamon continuing around the curve. The sword appears to be both early, and of quality. The habaki is two colored, both silver and blue or black colored. The grip has menuki on both sides. The fuchi is blackened, with a design of waves, very finely done. The tsuba is bronze, with designs of blackened flowers with golden anthers coming out of them. The side knife kozuka is of particular interest, having a golden shrimp cast onto a blackened copper background. The reverse of the side knife has three older Japanese characters on it, while the blade has four characters on it. The wakizashi saya is very handsome, having a patterned lacquer design that looks like waves. The grip wrapping is intact, although the same is cracked underneath by the mekugi. The kashira is missing. Part of the sageo cord is still on the scabbard. Size: 21 1/2 inches long overall, with the blade with the habaki is 16 inches long.
