A magnificent Victorian sterling silver epergne by Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & Mortimer, the premier London firm that succeeded Paul Storr. The naturalistic design features entwined grapevines with three leaf-form dishes, pendant clusters of grapes, and a reticulated basket base. Marked Hunt & Roskell / Late Storr & Mortimer / Hunt, with full London sterling hallmarks for 1846. This example reflects the firm’s transition from neoclassical to high-Victorian taste under John Samuel Hunt, renowned for his sculptural silver exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
