A superb 3rd class badge of the Order of St. Michael of Bavaria. The badge is 14 karat gold, suspended from a silver crown, on a length of original ribbon. The obverse has a high relief figure of St. Michael triumphant, in armor with shield and weapon, standing atop a defeated devil. His shield has the enameled words, "Quis Et Deus," and there is an enameled cross on his breast plate. On the reverse center is the word "Virtuti" in enamel. The arms of the cross are enameled a deep blue. There are jeweler's marks on the suspension ring. The Bavarian Order of St. Michael was founded in 1693 by the Elector of Bavaria, and reformed by King Ludwig I of the House of Wittelsbach. The Order ceased to exist following World War I. Unusually in Germany, it is considered a Roman Catholic Order. Size: The badge itself is 2 3/4 inches tall. The Order with ribbon is 5 1/4 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $35.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition

Overall condition is excellent, other than a small chip in the enamel on the reverse right hand arm of the cross.
