Stamped 18K yellow gold pocket watch, featuring both sides of the case engraved with California Gold Rush iconography. One cover depicts a miner with pickaxe and sluice under the words “California or Bust”, while the reverse shows a classical allegorical figure of California seated before mining hills, holding a staff and shield inscribed “Eureka.” Both scenes are framed by ornate foliate engraving. The white enamel dial reads “Rail Road Time Keeper / Robt. Barwise / 181 Strand / London / 10020” and includes a Roman numeral hour ring and subsidiary seconds dial. Case tested between 14K and 18K gold; the hallmarked back is stamped 10020 and “RJ & Co.” Missing second hand. Diameter: 45mm.
