Elaborately engraved 14K yellow gold spectacles case with scrolling foliate designs and a cabochon-cut sapphire thumbpiece, monogrammed on one side and inscribed inside “E. F. Jackman, Pittsburgh, Pa.” Likely the original owner, Edward F. Jackman (1855–1928) was a Pittsburgh gentleman of means active around the turn of the 20th century. A refined example of luxury personal accessories from the Victorian era, reflecting the prosperity of Pittsburgh’s Gilded Age elite and the city’s emergence as a center of American industrial wealth and craftsmanship.
