109-piece sterling silver flatware service by the Whiting Manufacturing Company in the “Louis XV” pattern, patented in 1891. One of Whiting’s most elaborate Rococo Revival designs, the pattern is distinguished by exuberant scrollwork, shell ornament, and richly modeled borders inspired by eighteenth-century French decorative arts. Produced during the golden age of American silver manufacturing, the Louis XV pattern remains among the firm’s most recognizable designs. The service bears the Whiting sterling hallmark and patent date, together with the retailer’s mark of Freeman Jewelry Co., Sacramento, California. The service retains matching engraved script monograms and weighs approximately 93 troy ounces of sterling silver, exclusive of stainless knife blades. The service includes 12 dinner knives, 12 luncheon knives, 13 serving pieces, 12 butter knives, 12 teaspoons, 12 dessert spoons, 12 dinner forks, 12 salad forks, and 12 tablespoons, totaling 109 pieces.

Dimensions Service of 109 pieces; various sizes. Weight Approximately 93 troy ounces (excluding stainless knife blades).
